Join us for a series of conversations with the incredibly talented young singers who’ve performed — and triumphed! — at NJPAC’s Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition — as well as the judges who spotted their amazing gifts. This annual contest, now in its ninth year, has propelled a whole cohort of rising jazz singers into exceptional careers.

At this NJPAC Backstage interview, meet the 2018 winner of the Sassy Awards: Laurin Talese.

A Cleveland native, Laurin moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of the Arts there, getting her degree in vocal performance. Ever since, she’s been in the spotlight, sharing the stage with both jazz and classical superstars, from Gregory Porter and Patti LaBelle to the Cleveland Orchestra! She’s now a songwriter as well as a singer, and in 2016 she released her debut album, Gorgeous Chaos.

Tune in for a conversation about jazz, recording and touring with Laurin Talese at 6PM on July 28, on NJPAC’s Instagram page!
