Explore Caribbean cultural dance in this lively class led by Patricia Dye! The class will highlight the conga day celebration dance which maintains the African tradition of storytelling through movement.

Originally from St. Croix, Patricia Dye has been teaching, advising, and directing dance at Science Skills High School for Science, Technology, and the Creative Arts in Brooklyn for the past 19 years. For seven years, she was the Artistic Director for the Restoration Dance Theater at the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and served as assistant and dance captain for Dr. Chuck Davis since 1988. In 1993, she became Founder and Artistic Director of Passing Ancestral Knowledge Along with Dance Company (PAKA). Patricia holds a BFA in Dance from Adelphi University and a MA in Dance Education and Performance from NYU.

Now, in this virtual class for NJPAC, Patricia is excited to share the traditional conga day dance with you. The class will begin with a full-body Dunham-style warm-up that fuses the Caribbean and West African dances with modern technique, followed by dance combinations set to soca, calypso, and dancehall music. Tune in for this Wellness Wednesday workshop on June 30 at 7:30 PM!
