World premiere! Sacred Visions: Oru de Oro brings together pianist/composer Michele Rosewoman’s acclaimed New Yor-Uba Ensemble and choreographer Danys “La Mora” Pérez Prades’s Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble in a bold new collaboration. Rooted in Rosewoman’s expansive musical vision, her jazz-infused suite Oru de Oro is brought vividly to life through La Mora’s visceral and deeply expressive choreography. This breathtaking dialogue between musicians and dancers draws inspiration from Yoruba ceremonial traditions — uniting sacred rhythms, intricate composition and improvisation, powerful movement and vibrant storytelling.
Founded in 1983, Michele Rosewoman’s New Yor-Uba is a groundbreaking ensemble bridging contemporary jazz with Cuban folkloric traditions. Best known for the landmark work Hallowed, the project has served for more than four decades as a vital forum for cross-cultural musical exchange. Rosewoman is a recipient of a 2025 Jazz Legacies Fellowship and contributed as pianist and composer to the GRAMMY®-winning album Cuba: The Conversation Continues led by Arturo O’Farrill.
Founded in 2005 by Danys “La Mora” Pérez Prades, a 2019 Dance/USA Doris Duke Artist Fellow, the Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble is a New York City-based company dedicated to the preservation, performance and evolution of Afro-Cuban folkloric traditions. The company serves as a vital cultural bridge connecting traditions of the African diaspora with contemporary performance practice, honoring Yoruba, Congo, Carabalí, Arará and Dahomean lineages while celebrating the broader heritage of Cuba.
