This week, meet Mira Abou Elezz, an Egyptian-American Muslim born in Pittsburgh, PA, raised in the Bible Belt who spent her teen years in Saudi Arabia — then returned to the States to get an MA in Religion and a BA in Psychology at Rutgers-New Brunswick. While completing her degrees, she began working with a chaplain at a federal prison. Today, Mira lives in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood and is a staff chaplain at NYC’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Princeton Medical Center’s behavioral health facility. She also writes for Muslim outlets including Miss Muslim and Muslim Girl, focusing her work on young women and sexuality.
