In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, NJPAC’s long-running social justice conversation series Standing in Solidarity will focus in May on the Asian American experience with a screening of the award-winning documentary film Far East Deep South followed by a panel discussion. In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Standing in Solidarity focuses on the Asian American experience.
The event includes a screening of the award-winning documentary Far East Deep South, the PSEG True Diversity Film selection, about a Chinese American family’s search for their roots and the discovery of an immigrant community in the South in the wake of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
Esta película también revela cómo los inmigrantes chino-estadounidenses desarrollaron una relación simbiótica con sus vecinos negros durante la era de Jim Crow y superaron las divisiones raciales y étnicas en tiempos tumultuosos.
